Medical Students

At Dharura, we want to support a global perspective of healthcare throughout careers, and provide professionals with a route to engage in ethical global partnership work. We therefore provide a number of opportunities for medical students to gain experience within our global health partnerships.

Medical Electives

We provide a limited number of medical electives within our Kenyan health partnership. Elective students receive structured training in Global Health from our faculty, as well as pre-deployment preparation and training to ensure safety and security. Our electives involve experience alongside our clinical fellows in Nanyuki, Kenya, but primarily deploying to the rural healthcare setting at Leparua conservancy, where they work alongside local clinic and community to better understand the overall health system. We support all the logistical and practical elements of the elective, while ensuring costs for students are kept to a minimum, and students are able to gain a really worthwhile and productive experience within our high standards of governance and ethics. Student Choice Modules

Dharura provides a wide range of Year 3 student choice modules that offer an exciting opportunity to gain an early global perspective on healthcare. These modules involve structures training and pre-deployment processes, alongside a 2-3 week deployment within our Kenyan partnership to Nanyuki and rural clinics. Students also receive training in remote and wilderness medicine as part of their experience. This allows students an excellent overall experience, and a chance to reflect on areas of clinical practice globally, while working with our experienced faculty and Global clinical fellows.
